Sewage Treatment Plant
We offer full installation
and servicing to new and existing systems. Sewage treatment plants receive all waste from a property. Storm water must be
excluded to prevent excessive flow during wet weather.
Unlike
a septic tank a sewage treatment plant does not rely on a soakaway as part of the filtration process. The treated effluent
meets Environmental Agency standards and therefore can be discharged directly into a water course - stream - ditch - river
- high level soakaway.
Septic Tanks/Soakaway Systems
Septic tanks receive all waste water from a property. Storm water must be excluded
to prevent excessive flows during wet weather.
The design
of the septic tank allows liquid to be separated from solids. The solids settle to the floor of the tank whilst fat and grease
will float to the surface and form a crust. The liquid waste then drains to a soakaway, where it filters and percolates into
the surrounding soil.
As a septic tank relies on a soakaway
as part of the filtration process, its effectiveness can be greatly reduced by surrounding ground conditions, i.e. high water
table, clay soil and contamination. In these problem areas it may not be possible to install a septic tank and a sewage treatment
plant may be required.
Independent Drainage are able to
convert existing septic tanks/cess pits into sewage treatment plants avoiding invasive and expensive groundworks.

We offer the complete service - emptying, reconditioning, annual/quarterly/monthly maintenance contracts
for domestic, commercial, schools, business parks etc.
